Certainly the MOST annoying thing in this second season for me. It was the only thing that truly bothered me during my 2 viewing of the season.

I truly liked this 2nd season, I watched it two time but there’s one thing that really annoyed me is Gi-Hun not suspecting 001 AT ALL when Il-Nam (former 001) told him that he was the creator of the Squid Game and that he played the games as 001 for the thrill.

Some people says that it’s just that Gi-Hun isn’t very smart but I think it’s just bad writing here.

Gi-Hun is a former player who was very close to the former 001. This one 001 told him that he was the mastermind behind the game that mentally drained him and changed the whole trajectory of his life. Gi-Hun (with a dirty/exhausted look and a full beard that show his depressed state) reacts in utter anger and confusion to his revelations. He literally said : "Why did you let me live and no one else ?!!" "Was it a lie ?, what was true and what was a lie ? Why did you join us ?" In S2, Gi-Hun’s goal is to return to the Squid Game in order to make it stop. Gi-Hun should be on the lookout if he want his plan to suceed and he should be even more cautious about another 001 player. There’s even a scene where Gi-Hun, his team and Oh Young-Il (the Frontman/the new 001) discuss about Young-Il name meaning "The number 1 player" (or something like that). But no, Gi-Hun doesn’t even get a bit suspicious. It makes it look like the final conversation with Il-Nam never happened.

If the candidate number assigned to the Squid Game VIP members such as Il-Nam or In-Ho were a random number like 286 or 48 on 456 candidates, I would’ve had less problems with Gi-Hun not suspecting/paying close attention. But it’s literally the number ONE here, a very specific number, it doesn’t make sense.

How come Gi-Hun didn’t get suspicious right off the bat ?
